Scholarship Program
The Scholarship Program provides support to youth who are actively engaged in Visions and Pathways programs. Given that most of our youth come from low-income backgrounds and lack parental support, they qualify for substantial financial aid when enrolling in a state college or university.
Despite the expectation for our youth to work, there is frequently a disparity between their earnings, the financial aid offered by the institution, and the overall cost of attending college. Visions and Pathways scholarships are utilized to cover expenses such as, summer school tuition, housing, textbooks, fees, transportation to and from school, and other miscellaneous costs that are not included in the financial aid package.
- Visions and Pathways Scholarship, this award is extended to all V&P youth who are interested in attending post-secondary school, including, but not limited to; trade school and two year or four-year college. Demonstration of academic and personal achievement, grit, and the drive to succeed through further education form the criteria for this scholarship.
- The Warren Scholarship Fund is named in honor of Lisa Warren, an attorney and a long-term former member of the Board of Trustees. The Warren Scholarship Fund provides special recognition for youth who have demonstrated a commitment to community service and academic achievement.
- Spreading Joy Scholarship, The Sharing Joy Scholarship honors Joy Mathiowdis, a beloved board member who passed away in 2019. Joy was a valued colleague to many from Schering-Plough, Merck, Novartis, and GSK. The scholarship recognizes youth who exemplify Joy’s dedication and compassion to improving the lives of others, by promoting civic engagement, and especially fighting discrimination of any kind.
- Ruth Meissner Scholarship, the Ruth Meissner Memorial Scholarship was created in May 2021 by the Meissner Family to support Visions and Pathways affiliated youth by providing financial assistance to help them achieve their educational goals. ASK JEFF FIRST
- AT&T Pioneers Scholarship, the AT&T Pioneers Scholarship is based not only on achievement, but also on efforts to contribute to society through volunteering. Fifteen (15) hours of volunteering and/or community service in the past 12 months must be demonstrated to achieve this award. ASK SUZANNE FIRST
- Magic Money, the Magic Money, Kristina Lorelle Walker Empowerment Fund. Kristina Walker died in a tragic motorcycle accident. She was twenty-five years old. Because of the severe trauma to her head, facial identification was not possible. Her father was able to perform the identification through a tattoo on her shoulder with the word Magic. The word was written in Kristina’s mother’s handwriting who had passed away three years earlier. Magic Money is used to support women or men who are pursuing an undergraduate degree. Priority will be given domestic violence (dv) survivors. A survivor herself, Kristina’ s life course was impacted by dv, and she was devoted to victim empowerment.
